THERAPEUTIC STYLE

DIVORCE SUPPORT GROUP

Respecting and using therapeutic approaches from a variety of perspectives, below is a list of the approaches I most often draw upon. Divorces can be heart wrenching! Sometimes they are sprung upon us from what seems like nowhere leaving us in a state of shock.

• Existential = Becoming aware of the meaning of our existence, our fears around death, our awareness of choice in every moment, and our need for relationships, which all lead to a much richer and fulfilling life.

• Modern Psychoanalytic = Exploring early childhood attachments and creating a relationship with the therapist which heals the primal wounds.

• Psychodynamic perspective = Embracing that all your emotions and thoughts are significant and worth exploring and that you have a good reason for them.

• Lifespan integration = Building self strength and integrating all the parts of you into a highly functioning adult.

• Spiritual = Through facing the pain from the people who have harmed you, coming to a place where you can forgive. Forgiveness is a daunting task and I will walk with you through this difficult journey offering empathy as you struggle.

In addition, I will often refer movies and books to people that I believe will impact them.

Or , we may have been battling with this decision for years or months, but when we finally take action we are left with feelings of guilt and concern for our spouses and children. Some other people may feel a certain sense of relief and a new sense of freedom.

Whatever the circumstances, this process can plague us with questions like: "Am I going to be ok? Are my children going to be ok? Will I ever find love again? Will I ever have one day that I don't cry or think of my spouse? Will I ever be free from my guilt and shame?"

If you find yourself in the midst of this painful process, you don't have go through it alone!

This group can help you:

  • Find support through this grieving process
  • Learn coping skills
  • Rediscover yourself
  • Learn Relational skills to incorporate into your next relationship
  • Find hope for your future

Now all that's left of me
Is what I pretend to be
So together, but so broken up inside
'Cause I can't breathe
No, I can't sleep
I'm barely hangin' on
